1:16

Here you go.  The first minute and 16 seconds of AYR's first Middle School match.  The Bear makes the first tackle. The Bear is the first to touch the ball.  Leo gets yelled at a little for being out of position at the very beginning, but then makes an epic (and out of focus) tackle. Our coaches and subs are standing on the field leading to some confusion to where the touch line is, hence the mis-tackle before Phoenix runs down for the try.

In this minute and sixteen seconds the guys probably learned more about rugby than they did in the previous three practices. That's what you gotta do. Good job boys!

Thank You Life University!

Thank you to Life University for their donation to help us buy jerseys! We got them just in time for our first match this weekend.

Check 'em out!  They look great.  We will get pictures of the boys wearing them this weekend.

Saturday at Life

Thank you Life University!

We got to ramble up to Life this Saturday and practice on their fields with a few of their players.  It was killer fun.  Andrew , Duncan and Jordan helped out with running the boys through some drills and playing a few games with them.

The Elementary kids split into three groups and played a little tournament. Did someone win? Well, of course!  But we didn't bother keeping track of that because we were having too much fun.

The Middle School kids ran drills and had a contact scrimmage, but the highlight of the day was  playing Ultimate Rugby because they actually got to play with Colton, Andrew and Duncan.  The kids were impressed. To paraphrase what the kids said, "I would be sprinting and they would be running at half speed.  If I was about to touch them, they would just step to the side.  I was like, 'what!?'"

It was a great day.  Thank you again, Life!  We had a lot of fun!

There are better pictures out there.  As those trickle in, we will post them.

Rugby: Fastest Growing Team Sport

"Move over slow-pitch softball and football, rugby is the fastest growing team sport in the United States according to the latest U.S. Trends in Team Sports Report. Rugby still has a long way to go to catch the likes of football, gymnastics, and soccer, but with and 81 percent growth between 2008-2013 rugby is making gains. Much of the growth as at the youth level." 81% growth! Look at us, we helped with that! Rain!? What Rain!?

Oh yeah, that rain.

At 8:30 this morning it wasn't raining so we decided to go ahead with practice, but by nine it was pouring!  About 15 boys came out and braved the rain.  They ended up having great time.  With the rain, we did not do to many drills, but ended up having a long scrimmage.  It was good to play in the rain.
